Sabastian's Tally Gives Men's Soccer 1-1 Tie Against Felician

October 3, 2006

WATERBURY, Conn.-Senior Adam Sabastian (Naugatuck, Conn./Kennedy) tallied his second goal of the season, as the Post University men's soccer team tied Felician College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

The Eagles (5-4-3, 4-1-1 CACC) remain unbeaten at home in conference play this season, with a 4-0-1 record.

Post controlled the early pace of play by holding a 9-1 edge in shots, before Felician (2-8-1, 1-3-1 CACC) broke the ice at the 37:35 point of the contest. Conrad Symber fired a shot, just to the left of Post goalkeeper sophomore Dan Nadel (Farmington, Conn./Farmington). The ball was deflected off a defender and went towards the foot of Jason James who put it in the back of the net, with a header.

The Eagles finished the first half with a 10-3 margin in shots.

With about 40 minutes left in the second half, the Eagles had a chance to tie the game, as freshman Johan Pineda (Lima, Peru/San Jose) sent a free kick to Sabastian, who was at the top of the box. Sabastian dribbled and found Pineda who came to the other side of the box, and ripped a shot that went just wide of the far post.

A few minutes later, the Eagles had another good look at the goal, as junior Raleigh Woodburn's (St. Catherines, Jamaica/Dinthill) ripped shot from the top of the box, but Felician keeper, Paulo DosSantos, was able to make the save, and keep the Eagles off the scoreboard.

However, the Eagles mounted another scoring opportunity, when junior Maurice Johnson (Bronx, N.Y./Bryant & Stratton) took a corner kick, which found junior Enda Crehan (Galway, Ireland/Holy Rosary) who sent it to Sabastian, who headed it into the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1, at the 64:52 mark.

It would remain 1-1 until the end of regulation. In the first extra session, Johnson received a pass, dribbled around two defenders to the top of the box, and fired a shot that went high.

Felician also had a good look at the goal in the second overtime, as Eric Moore fired a shot on goal, and it look to be the game-winner, but a diving save by Nadel kept the score tied at 1-1.

Nadel, who is ranked 21st in the latest NCAA Division II rankings for save percentage, recorded seven saves on the afternoon. With games played through October 1, Nadel is sporting a .831 save percentage.

DosSantos recorded 11 saves for Felician.

The Eagles outshot their opponents 30-13, and held a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. Felician was called for 22 fouls, while the Eagles were whistled for 17. Post was called for three offsides calls, and Felician was guilty on two occasions.

Post returns to action on Saturday afternoon with a CACC match against Holy Family at 3 p.m. at LaMoy Field.
