Men's SoccerMen's Soccer Falls 2-1, In Home Regular Season Finale October 19, 2006 WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University men's soccer team dropped its final regular season home game on Thursday afternoon, to the No. 8 ranked team in NSCAA/adidas Northeast Regional Poll, Mercy College, 2-1. The loss drops the Eagles to 7-5-5 overall, while the Flyers improve to 6-5-2 on the season. Mercy struck first, as the ball deflected off a defender to the foot of Quaison Carter who lofted a floater from the top of the box and over the head of Post goalkeeper junior Marco Gasper (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck). The Flyers who add their second goal of the afternoon at the 63:09 mark as Kevin Gray, found Omar Brown alone on a breakaway. Brown put it past sophomore Dan Nadel (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) who replaced Gasper at the halftime break. The Eagles scored their lone goal of the afternoon with just 10 seconds remaining in the contest, as a Post attacker was brought down hard on a foul, which resulted in a penalty kick for junior Teidor Maleshkov (Haskovo, Bulgaria). Maleshkov put it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Flyer goalkeeper Carl Spence made six saves to record the win, and Gasper and Nadel each recorded a save for the Eagles. Post enjoyed a 22-9 advantage in shots, and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon. Mercy was called for 13 fouls, while the Eagles were whistled for nine. The Eagles conclude the regular season on Saturday morning, as they travel to the University of New Haven for an 11 a.m. kickoff. Post is the number-three seed in the upcoming Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Championships. The Eagles
will host Felician College on Tuesday afternoon in a quarterfinal
round match. Kickoff on Tuesday is slated for 2 p.m.
