Trowers' Header Propels Men's Soccer To CACC Semifinals

WATERBURY, Conn.-Freshman Eurica Trowers (Bronx, N.Y./Clinton) lifted the number-three seed Post University men's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win over number-six Felician College in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Soccer Championships, on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field.

With the win, the Eagles (8-6-5, 4-1-3 CACC) advance to the semifinals on Thursday afternoon at Felician College against the number-two seed Wilmington College. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.

With seven seconds left in the first overtime period, junior Maurice Johnson (Bronx, N.Y./Bryant & Stratton) sent a cross, that Trowers who was in place in front of the goal, headed it home, breaking a 1-1 tie, and advancing the Eagles to the semifinals.

Post scored the first goal of the day, as sophomore Lior Buton (Haifa, Israel/Hugim) feed Johnson, who broke free of the defense, and went one-on-one with the Felician (3-11-3, 2-3-2 CACC) goalkeeper Paulo Dos Antos. As Dos Antos was coming out on his line to make a play, he slipped leaving Johnson with an empty net.

The Eagles looked to go up 2-0, as they came down on a rush, and one of the Post strikers was taken down hard by a Felician defender, which resulted in a penalty kick for senior Kafoumba Cisse (Abidjan, Ivory Coast/Gateway C.C.). However, Dos Antos stopped Cisse's shot keeping the score 1-0, Post.

The save gave Felician some life as some three minutes later, Nash Townsend found Armin Tandir, who's shot trickled past Post goalkeeper Michael Aschliman (Torrington, Conn./Torington), to knot the score at 1-1.

Aschliman recorded his first victory of the season, as he made four saves, while going the entire way for the Eagles. Dos Antos stopped eight shots, including six in the first half, including the penalty kick.

Post enjoyed a 20-8 edge in shots, and a slight 5-3 edge in corner kicks. There were a total of 33 fouls called in the contest, as Felician was whistled for 16, and the Eagles were called for 17.

The Eagles will take on Wilmington on Thursday, following the Caldwell-Dominican match that begins at 1 p.m.
