Men's Basketball Welcomes Four Newcomers To Roster

September 4, 2007

WATERBURY, Conn.-Post University men's basketball Head Coach Mike Donnelly announced the addition of three players to the roster for the 2007-08 season, this afternoon. Freshman Jonathan Fontanez, junior Rob McClain, and freshman Spencer Smith will join freshman Garvin McAlister who committed to play for the Eagles earlier this summer.

Donnelly, who was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Coach of the Year, in 2006-07, will have 15 players on the roster, when he rolls the balls out on the first day of practice in October.

Fontanez comes to Post after playing for Norte Dame-Fairfield and Head Coach Vin Laczkowski. He was named to the Connecticut Post Super-15 and was an All-State pick by the Hartford Courant. The 6-foot-3 forward averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per contest last season.

McClain a local Waterbury product, comes to Post after playing at Globe Tech, and will have two years of eligibility remaining. He will provide depth and versatility in the backcourt for the Eagles.

Smith was a starting combo guard for White Plains High School, which finished eighth in the Madison Square Garden (MSG) Boy's Tri-State Rankings. He averaged 8.4 points per game, and also brings with him a solid defense game to the table.

McAlister committed earlier this summer, and comes to Post after starring at Norwich Free Academy. He was named Player of the Year, by the Norwich Bulletin and the New London Day.

Last season, the Eagles were 17-12 overall and 14-6 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Post also captured a share of the CACC Regular Season Championship.

The 2007-08 season tips off for the Eagles on Thursday, Nov. 15 at Merrimack College. The first home game of the season is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 20 against C.W. Post.
