Men's Basketball Grinds Out 55-48 Win Over USP

December 8, 2007

WATERBURY, Conn.-Junior center Jesse Iyalekhue (Bronx, N.Y./Columbus) netted 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, as three Post University men's basketball team players poured in double figures in a 55-48 win over University of the Sciences, Saturday afternoon in the Drubner Center.

With the win the Eagles improve to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). USP falls to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the CACC.

Senior forward Peter Lawal (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) recorded his second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. In a 93-86 win over Pace University on Thursday, Lawal recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds. He was 6-of-11 from the field on Saturday, and recorded his seventh block of the season.

Senior swingman Arthur Robertson (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Beach Channel) recorded his third double-digit outing in a row with 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting. Robertson has netted double figures in six of the first seven games of the season.

Adewale Adefemi was the only USP player in double-digits, as he had 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.

Post shot 45.7 percent from the field, connecting on a season-low 21-of-46. The Eagles held the Devils to 36.2 percent from the field, limiting USP to 17-of-47 from the field and 4-of-12 from three-point range. Post forced the Devils into 19 turnovers, recording a season-high 11 steals.

In the second half, USP led by as much as 40-29 after a Shane Connor jumper at the 12:03 mark. But a Lawal lay-in at the 11:40 mark ignited a 13-3 run, which tied the game at 43-43, with 4:23 remaining thanks to a basket by Iyalekhue.

Adefemi put USP back on top with an ole-fashion three-point play, but the lead was short-lived, as junior forward AJ Reitter's (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) foul-line jumper and a three-pointer from Robertson gave the Eagles a 48-46 lead with 2:32 left.

After a turnover by the Devils, junior swingman James Lee (Montreal, Quebec, Canada/Vanier Prep) nailed a trey to give Post a five-point cushion, 51-46 with 1:24 to play. Post would ice it with a pair of free throws from Iyalekhue and Robertson.

Post will have 10 days off for final exams, and will return to the hardwood on December 17, in the first round of the ECAC Division II Holiday Festival at the University of Bridgeport against Concordia College (NY). Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
