Men's Basketball Begins Quest For CACC Championship On Saturday

WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University men's basketball team, the number-one seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division, will host the number-four seed in the North Bloomfield College, in the quarterfinals of the CACC Championships, Saturday afternoon in the Drubner Center. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.

The Eagles Sports Network will carry the game live for free on http://www.posteagles.com/, beginning with the Nike Pre-Game Show at 1:35 p.m. Joe Coss (play-by-play) and Claudel Jean-Louis (color analyst) will call the action live from the Drubner Center.

Saturday's game will also be available as a video stream online at http://www.cacc.tv/ for $5.95.

Post (14-13, 10-6 CACC) won both meetings in the regular season, winning 86-81 in overtime on January 29 at Bloomfield, and 82-71 on February 13 at the Drubner Center.

In the first meeting between the two schools this season, freshman Garvin McAlister's (Norwich, Conn./N.F.A.) three-pointer sent the game into overtime, as the Eagles had five scorers in double-digits. McAlister netted 10 points in the game.

Senior swingman Arthur Robertson (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Beach Channel) led the way with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Junior forward Omar Robinson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Canarsie) chipped in with 14 points, junior forward AJ Reitter (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) added 12 points, and senior forward Peter Lawal (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

In the second meeting of the season at the Drubner Center, Reitter led the way with a game-high 21 points. McAlister registered a career-high 20 points, including five three-pointers. Lawal rounded out three Eagles in double figures with 17 points.

Robertson was named All-CACC first-team, as he enters the CACC Championships seventh in the conference in scoring with 16.7 points per game, and third in the conference in rebounding with 8.8 caroms a game. Lawal was named third-team All-Conference, after scoring 12.6 points per game, and Reitter was an honorable mention selection and is 10th in the conference in scoring with 15.0 ppg.

Bloomfield comes to town with a 15-15 overall record and a 6-10 mark in the CACC. The Deacons are led by junior guard Omari Knox, who was a second-team All-CACC selection. Knox leads the team in scoring with 17.2 points per game, and has netted a team-high 63 three-pointers on the season. He is also the third-leading scorer in the conference. Freshman guard Gage Daye is second on the team in scoring with 11.4 points per game.

Head-to-head, Bloomfield is fourth in the CACC in scoring with 73.8 points per game, following the regular season, while the Eagles are seventh with 71.6 ppg. Post is sixth in the conference in scoring defense with 68.9 points per game, while Bloomfield is 10th with 77.7 ppg. On the boards Bloomfield leads the conference with 44.7 rebounds per game, while the Eagles are third with 39.8 rpg.

Post is second in the conference in field goal percentage defense, as opponents are shooting 40.6 percent (636-1565) from the field. Bloomfield is sixth, as opponents are shooting 42.3 percent (851-2010).

The winner of Saturday's game will face an opponent from the South Division in the semifinals on Wednesday evening. The highest remaining seed in the North, will host the lowest remaining seed in the South following the quarterfinals. In addition, the highest remaining South team will host the lowest remaining North team. The semifinal winners will advance to the championship game on Saturday, March 8, at the highest remaining seed.
