Men's BasketballUMass-Lowell Edges Men's Basketball, 58-54 February 2, 2008 LOWELL, Mass.-Kevin Carr had a game-high 25 points, for UMass-Lowell, leading all scorers, in a 58-54, win over the Post University men's basketball team, Saturday afternoon at the Costello Athletic Center. Seven of his eight field goals on the afternoon, came behind the three-point arch. With the non-conference victory, the River Hawks improve to 8-11, while the Eagles slip to 10-11 on the season. Senior swingman Arthur Robertson (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Beach Channel) recorded his eighth double-double of the season for the Eagles, with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Robertson has played in 19 games for the Eagles this season, and has scored 10 or more points in 17 contests. He has also recorded double digits in the last 11 games for the Eagles. Senior forward Peter Lawal (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) was the only other Eagle to reach double figures with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Lawal also grabbed six rebounds and had a block and a steal. The senior continues to inch closer to the 1,000-point plateau, as following this afternoon's game, he needs 61 points to reach the milestone. With UML leading 52-46, after a pair of free throws by Carr, the Eagles received a free throw from Lawal, and a three-pointer from junior forward AJ Reitter (Baltimore, Md./Franklin), who had eight points and seven rebounds on the day, cutting the lead to 52-50 with 4:29 left in the game. The River Hawks went back up by four points, with a pair of charity stripe tosses from Dashon Harper, with 4:08 left to play. It would remain that way until the 2:56 mark, as the Eagles cut the lead in half with a fast-break lay-up by Reitter. UML came back down the court, and found Max Kerman for a jumper, giving the River Hawks a 56-52 lead. Out of a timeout by the Eagles, Post worked the ball to Robertson, for a lay-up, cutting the lead to 56-54 with 2:27 left on the clock. After getting possession off a rebound the Eagles turned the ball over, and Harper's driving layup, gave the River Hawks a 58-54 lead. Post scored 21 points off of 15 River Hawk turnovers, and the Eagles enjoyed a 24-18 margin in points in the paint. The Eagles held the River Hawks to 20-of-61 (32.8 percent) from the field, but struggled on the offense end, connecting on 19-of-63, shots from the field, for a 30.2 field goal percentage on the afternoon. Despite Carr's hot three-point shooting, neither team was able to find its mark from behind the three-point stripe. Post was 5-of-23 (21.7 percent) from three-point range, and UMass-Lowell was 9-of-33 (27.3 percent) from downtown. UML out-rebounded the Eagles 47-44, but each team was able to control 18 offensive rebounds. Freshman guard Garvin McAlister (Norwich, Conn./N.F.A.) had seven rebounds, four assists, a block, and two steals for the Eagles. The Eagles return to the friendly confines of the Drubner Center on Tuesday evening, for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest against Caldwell College. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m., following the Post-Caldwell women's game at 6 p.m. The Caldwell game will be carried live on the Eagle Sports
Network on www.posteagles.com, as Joe Coss
(play-by-play) and Claudel Jean Louis (color
