Lawal Lifts Men's Basketball To 88-77 Win Over Chestnut Hill

WATERBURY, Conn.-Senior forward Peter Lawal (Uniondale, N.Y./Uniondale) led all Post University men's basketball players with a season-high 26 points, to lead four Eagles in double figures, in an 88-77 win over Chestnut Hill College Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

Lawal connected on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while sinking 10-of-13 from the charity stripe, to help the Eagles improve to 8-8 overall and 5-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). Chestnut Hill falls to 2-13 overall and 2-5 in CACC play.

The senior forward, also inches closer to the 1,000-point plateau, as following this afternoon's game, he has 894 career points. He scored 12 points in the second half, grabbed nine rebounds, recorded a block, a steal, and five dunks in the contest.

Senior swingman Arthur Robertson (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Beach Channel) chipped in with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles. He was 5-of-8 from the field, and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Junior forward AJ Reitter (Baltimore, Md./Franklin) netted 14 points and five rebounds, while junior forward Omar Robinson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Canarsie) had 12 points with three three-pointers.

Post shot 51.8 percent form the field in the contest, connecting on 29-of-56 shots. The Eagles were 16-of-30 in the first half and 13-of-26 in the second stanza. Post struggled from behind the arc, converting 33.3 percent on 7-of-21. At the charity stripe, the Eagles shot 74.2 percent (23-31), including 18-of-25 in the second half.

The Eagles scored 26 points off 20 Chestnut Hill turnovers, while controlling the inside, out rebounding the Griffins 39-27, including a 15-10 advantage on the offensive boards. Post scored 34 points in the paint, and had a 24-16 edge in second chance points.

Chestnut Hill was led by Kevin Whaley, who led all scorers with a game-high 27 points. He was 7-of-15 from the field, and was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Julian McFadden and Brandon Williams each had 15 points, while Trenton Davidheiser chipped in with 12.

The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 23, as they travel to Caldwell College. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
