Wanklyn Named Captain Of Men's Golf Team

September 18, 2007

WATERBURY, Conn.-Post University men's golf Head Coach Pete Stevens announced this afternoon, that sophomore Lee Wanklyn has been named captain of the 2007-08 team.

"Lee has been working very hard on his game and he takes his golf game seriously," Stevens said. "He never quits and will grind out every stroke he can, and that is what I like about him."

Wanklyn is coming off a stellar freshman season, as he was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year, after finishing third overall, in the 2007 CACC Championships. He garnered five CACC Rookie of the Week awards, and was named to the All-CACC Team after finishing in the top-10 at the CACC Championships.

"He leads by example and has the qualities that a good solid golf program can be built around," the Eagle mentor said. "We are in a rebuilding year, but with Lee's leadership and determination, we should still be very competitive."

Wanklyn and the rest of the Post University men's golf team will return to the links this weekend, for the 2007 ECAC Division II Championships at the Drumlins Golf Course in Syracuse, N.Y. Last year, the Eagles captured the ECAC Championship, for the first time in the history of the program with a team score of 595, on the 6,213-yard par-71 course.

This year's ECAC Championships will tee off on Sunday with first-round action. The tournament will conclude on Monday.
