Golf Set For Dowling September Shootout

WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University men's golf team will tee off at the Dowling College September Shootout on Sunday and Monday, September 16-17, at the prestigious Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, N.Y.

Several teams from in and around the tri-state area will converge on the par 71, 6,800-yard Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course. According to the course's website, it has dramatic rolling hills covered by tall fescue grasses are complimented by a lush wooded area. More than 55 strategically placed sand bunkers and three large lakes also come into play.

The Eagles are coming off an eighth place finish at the Goldey-Beacom College Fall Invitational last weekend. Sophomore Lee Wanklyn led the Eagles, finishing eighth overall with a 10-over 152 for the two-round tournament.

Freshman Ryan Philipp, who made his collegiate debut last weekend, finished second on the team and 25th overall with a 157. He fired an 80 in the first round, but came back to finish three strokes better in the second round with a six-over par 77.

Sophomore James Livingstone, was fourth on the team after the first round, carded a six-over par 77 in the second round, to finish the tournament third on the team with a 160.

Junior Jamie Blake had a 163 (82, 81), and senior Calum Malcolm registered a 169 (85, 84) to round out the scoring for the Eagles.

Following this weekend's tournament, the Eagles will travel to Syracuse, N.Y., as they look to defend their ECAC Division II Championship from a year ago. The ECAC's will once again by held at the Drumlins Golf Club
