GolfPhilipp Tied For Seventh Following First Day Of Northeast Regional May 5, 2008 MIDDLETOWN, Del.-Freshman Ryan Philipp (Bristol, Conn.) carded a four over-par 75 and the Post University men's golf team finished the first day of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional in fourth place with a score of 307, on Monday afternoon at the Back Creek Golf Course. "The first day you want to be in the hunt," Head Coach Pete Stevens said following the first round on Monday. "It's a three day tournament, you can't win it on the first day, but you can surely shoot yourself out of it, but we didn't do that. Tomorrow we are looking to stay close with the leaders, and hopefully go out and win it on Wednesday." Second round play will be on Tuesday on the par-71 6,585 Back Creek Golf Course. It was the same course that the Eagles won their third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship on April 15. The tournament wraps up on Wednesday with the third round. The winner of the Northeast Regional will earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships in Houston, Texas. With the greens playing very slick and tough pin placements according to Stevens, Philipp, starting at the first hole, carded a one-over 36 on the front-nine, and on the back-nine, carded a three-over 39. He is in a three-way tie for seventh, following first round action. Junior Jamie Blake (Arbroath, Scotland) and freshman David McGregor (Helensburgh, Scotland) are tied for 16th overall. The pair each shot 77 on the day, to finish the first round in a five-way tie for 16th at +6. Blake carded a 38 on the front nine, and a 39 on the back, while McGregor came back from a 41 on the front nine, to shoot an even-par 36 on the back. Senior Calum Malcolm (Dunfermline, Scotland) is tied for 21st overall, after shooting a 78 (+7) on Monday. He recorded a 38 on the front nine and finished the day with a 40 on the back nine. Sophomore Lee Wanklyn (Berkshire, England) finished with an 81 (40-41). The Eagles are eight strokes off the lead, held by St. Thomas Aquinas, who finished the first round with a 299. Bryant University is second after a 300, and Pace University rounds out the top three with a 303. The Eagles are ahead of UMass-Lowell (310), Adelphi (314), Bentley (324), and Wilmington (329). Blake will tee off on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by Malcolm at 9:39 a.m. Philipp will go off at 9:48 a.m. then McGregor at 9:57 a.m. Wanklyn will be in the last group that goes off at 10:06 a.m. Fans can follow the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional, by
