April 6, 2008

RIVERHEAD, N.Y.-Freshman Ryan Philipp recorded a first-round score of 75 and the Post University golf team is in third place, following the opening round of the Peter King Memorial Golf Tournament, on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon at the Long Island National Golf Course.

"We played well to put ourselves in position to make a move in the final round," Head Coach Pete Stevens said. "Conditions were cold and windy, but we managed to shoot some good scores."

Post shot a 308 for the first 18 holes, and trails leader Pace University, by eight strokes. Host Dowling College is in second with a 307.

Philipp is three strokes off the lead, held by Justin Fonesca of host Dowling College.

Freshman David McGregor, who finished second at last week's Goldey-Beacom Invitational, and junior Jamie Blake each shot a 77, to finish tied for second on the team.

Senior Calum Malcolm registered a 79, and sophomore Lee Wanklyn carded an 81.

The tournament will conclude on Monday, with second-round action.
