April 28, 2008

WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University men's golf team was named the number-three seed, in the NCAA Division II Golf Championship East/Northeast Super Regional, May 5-7 at the Back Creek Golf Club in Wilmington, Del. The Eagles will be making their fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Super Regional Tournament.

"We jumped from sixth to third in the Region," Head Coach Pete Stevens said. "We beat everybody in the Region in the last three tournaments. I believe we are the team to beat in the Super Regional's and hopefully we can play well and earn a trip to Houston, Texas for the National Tournament."

Post has won its last three tournaments it has entered, including its third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, on the same Back Creek course, April 15. In the previous Northeast Region poll the Eagles were ranked sixth, but since then, have been on a torrid pace finishing third or better in the last four tournaments.

In very difficult conditions in the second round of the CACC Championships, freshman David McGregor carded a four under par 67 to earn individual medalist honors. McGregor was named CACC Player of the Year and CACC Rookie of the Year as well.

McGregor also earned a spot on the All-CACC team, along with freshman Ryan Philipp, who finished third overall, senior Calum Malcolm, who finished fourth overall and sophomore Lee Wanklyn, who finished tied for fifth.

Adelphi is the number-one seed in the Northeast Region, and is followed by Bryant, number-two, the Eagles, number-three, Pace, number-four, St. Thomas Aquinas, number-five, UMass.-Lowell, number-six, Wilmington, number-seven, and Bentley, number-eight. Post has been the number-three seed in the Northeast in each of the past three years.

Ten regions comprise NCAA Division II men's golf, and there will be five Super Regional Tournaments, to determine the field for the NCAA Division II Championships, May 14-17 in Houston, Texas. The top team from each region within the Super Region and the top individual not with a team from each Super Regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals.
