GolfGolf Captures Third Straight Tournament With Win At AIC Invitational April 22, 2008 WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-After finishing the first round tied for second, the Post University men's golf team, moved over two teams to win the 2008 AIC Invitational, Tuesday afternoon at the Springfield Country Club. The Eagles shot a 293 over the final 18 holes to win their third tournament in a row, with a score of 604 (311-293). It was also the fourth tournament in a row, in which the Eagles finished ahead of teams from the Northeast Region. "Obviously it's good to get a win going into the Super Regional's," Head Coach Pete Stevens said. "Everyone's clicking and everyone is playing to their potential. We had good scores from each of the guys today, and everyone is contributing, and that is what you need at the Regional Tournament." Freshman Ryan Philipp (Bristol, Conn.) finished third overall with a two-round total of 148 (+4) on the par-72, 6,640-yard Springfield Country Club course. In the second round, he fired a one-under par 71, finishing six strokes better than his first round 77, on Monday. Philipp was four strokes back of Brant Kummerfeld of Adelphi for second place, and seven strokes back of individual medalist Oliver Hudesman also of Adelphi. Freshman David McGregor (Helensburgh, Scotland) finished second on the team and fifth overall with a two round score of 150 (+6). After firing a 77 in the first round, McGregor came back on Tuesday to card a one-over par 73. Junior Jamie Blake (Arbroath, Scotland) finished tied for seventh overall with a combine score of 152. Blake shot a pair of 76's for the tournament. Sophomore Lee Wanklyn (Berkshire, England) came back from an 82 in the first round to fire a two-over par 74 this afternoon, finishing with a 156. Senior Calum Malcolm (Dunfermline, Scotland) also recorded a 156, registering rounds of 81 on Monday and 75 this afternoon. Sophomore James Livingstone (Granby, Mass.), who was playing as an individual and did not count towards Post's team score, finished tied for 24th with a 159 (80-79). "Now we are going to go back to work and prepare for the Northeast Regional's, and hopefully advance to Texas for the NCAA Division II Championships," Stevens added. "I think right now we are one of the hottest teams in the Region, and we are going to be the team to beat in the Super Regional's." The Eagles finished ahead of Adelphi (608), Pace (623), UMass-Lowell (628), St. Thomas Aquinas (631), American International (635), Dominican (635), Bryant (636), Assumption (644), LeMoyne (649), Dowling (658), Southern New Hampshire (664), and Franklin Pierce (674). The Eagles closed out the regular season this afternoon and will
prepare for their fourth straight trip to the NCAA Northeast
Regional Championships at the Super Regional, May 5-7 at the Back
Creek Golf Club in Wilmington, Del. The Eagles won their third
straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship
on the same Back Creek Course on April 15.
