April 10, 2008

WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University men's golf team, will head to the Back Creek Country Club in Wilmington, Del., April 14-15, looking to capture its third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship. The Eagles won last year's weather-shortened event, by one stroke over Goldey-Beacom College.

The Eagles head to Delaware, fresh off winning the Peter King Memorial Championship last week, hosted by Dowling College. Freshman Ryan Philipp earned individual medalist honors after shooting rounds of 75 and 71 to finish with a 146 for the 36-hole tournament.

In addition, freshman David McGregor earned CACC Player and CACC Rookie of the Week honors on Monday, after recording a one-under par 71, in the second round of the Goldey-Beacom Invitational, finishing tied for second with a score of 148 (78-71).

The Eagles return three of its four scorers from last year's tournament including 2007 CACC Rookie of the Year sophomore captain Lee Wanklyn, who was third at last year's tournament. This year Wanklyn was named CACC Player of the Week on March 25, after he finished tied for third overall at the Pace University Spring Invitational. He also earned CACC honorable mention honors on April 7, after recording a pair of 75's in the Peter King Memorial, to finish tied for ninth overall.

Senior Calum Malcolm finished tied for 15th and junior Jamie Blake tied for 20th at last year's Championships.

The Eagles will be looking to tie Goldey-Beacom, who won three CACC Championships from 2003-to-2005.

In addition, Head Coach Pete Stevens returns to the CACC Championships this year, after missing last year's championships, after serving in Iraq with the U.S. Army.

The 36-hole tournament is slated to tee off on Monday morning, and will conclude with second round action on Tuesday. The winner will earn the CACC automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Tournament, May 5-7 at the same Back Creek Country Club course.
