GolfGolf Finishes Third At Goldey-Beacom Invitational April 2, 2008 AVONDALE, Pa.-Freshman David McGregor finished tied for second and the Post University men's golf team finished third overall, and first among Northeast Region as play concluded on Tuesday afternoon at the Goldey-Beacom Invitational at the Hartefeld National Golf Course. "We got a taste of what this team can do when we play with a higher intensity level," Head Coach Pete Stevens said following the third place finish. "This tournament was like a win for us, because we beat all the regional teams that participated, and hopefully we will move up in the regional rankings." McGregor carded an one under par 71 on Monday, finishing with the second-lowest round of the day, while registering a two-round score of 148 (77-71). He was in a four-way tie for second place, in a group that finished one stroke back of medalist Gavin Smith of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Millersville won the tournament with a 598 (300-298), nine strokes ahead of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a 607 (298-309). The Eagles were third, three strokes shy of second with a 610, rebounding from a 308 in the first round, to finish second round play with a 302. West Chester (614) was fourth followed by Adelphi (618), Pace (619), Dowling (622), Dominican (626), Wilmington (630), UMass-Lowell (631), Goldey-Beacom (648), American International (652), Southern New Hampshire (664), Caldwell (685), Holy Family (691), and Felician (741). Sophomore Lee Wanklyn finished tied for ninth overall, after recording back-to-back 75's, to finish the tournament with a 150. Senior Calum Malcolm was the third Eagle, in the top-20, as shot a 153 (74-79), finishing 17th overall. Freshman Ryan Philipp finished tied for 39th overall shooting a 159 (82-77), and sophomore James Livingstone finished tied for 65th with a score of 171 (82-89) "We still have a lot of work to do but I think we are gaining momentum going into next week's tournament at Dowling and the CACC Championship tournament in two weeks," Stevens added. The Eagles will return to the links April 6-8 at the Peter King Memorial Invitational, hosted by Dowling College at the Long Island National Golf Course, in Riverhead, N.Y. The Peter King Memorial, will serve as a warm-up for the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championships at the Back Creek Country Club in Wilmington, Del. April 13-15.
