GolfGolf Sits In Third Place After First Round Of Pace Invitational March 20, 2008 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.-Sophomore Lee Wanklyn carded a first round score of 76, as the Post University golf team finished the first round of the 2008 Pace University Spring Invitational in third place at the Crown Park Country Club, Thursday afternoon. As a team, the Eagles recorded a first round score of 318. "The scores were high today due to a constant 35-mile an hour wind," Head Coach Pete Stevens said following the first round. "We should have played better but we are in a position to make a run in tomorrow's second round." Pace leads the team competition with a score of 306, followed by Dowling College with a 317. The Eagles are one stroke back in third, and are one stroke better than Brevard with a 319. Dominican College is next with a 321, and is followed by UMass.-Lowell (322), Wilmington (326), LeMoyne (327), Nyack (339), and Goldey-Beacom (344). "Lee is almost ready to break out," Stevens added. "He has had two rounds where he was under par, but couldn't hold it together. We need to score better in our first round to give ourselves a better shot going into day two." Jamie Blake finished second on the team with a first round score of 78, while Ryan Phillip rounded out the top three for the Eagles with a 79. Calum Malcolm and David McGregor each recorded rounds of 85 to round out the Eagle contingent. The tournament will conclude on Friday with second round action.
