GolfMen's Golf Opens Spring Season At Barton Invitational March 5, 2008 WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University men's golf team will open the 2008 portion of its schedule March 10-11 at the 2Tagerets-Barton College Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Wilson Country Club in Wilson, N.C. "Our first tournament will be a tough one since it will be the first time we are outside on grass," Head Coach Pete Stevens said. "The Barton tournament is one of the oldest on the east coast and teams like Duke North Carolina State and Barton College makes the field the most difficult we have faced this year." The Eagles finished up the fall season strong finishing 10th overall and fourth among NCAA Division II teams at the 2007 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships in October. Sophomore James Livingstone finished tied for 18th overall among 211 golfers in the New England Championships. Livingstone along with junior Jamie Blake, senior Calum Malcolm, freshman Ryan Phillipp, sophomore Josh Ralton, and sophomore captain Lee Wanklyn returns to the lineup in the spring. In addition, freshman Kyle Bailey from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and freshman David McGregor from Helensburgh, Scotland join the Eagles this spring. "The arrival of David and Kyle will add to an already talented team going into the spring," Stevens added. The Eagles will face a par-72, 6,851-yard Wilson Country Club course. It has three lakes and 62 bunkers. The course was originally designed in 1973 by Willard Byrd. In 2005, the course was renovated by John LaFoy to its current configuration. The Wilson Country Club has hosted the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships, the CGA Senior State Championship, NC State Amateur Championship, as well as several US Open Qualifiers, Nationwide Tour Qualifiers, and NCAA Division II Super Regionals. While the Eagles will look to do well this weekend, the objective for the season remains intact according to Stevens, "Our goal is to win our conference for the third year in a row and gain a berth to the NCAA Super Regional in May." Following the first tournament of the spring, the Eagles will
head to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the 2008 Pace University Spring
Invitational, March 18-20.
