Men's Golf Third In Division II, After First Day Of  NEIGA Championships

BREWSTER, Mass.-The Post University men's golf team opened the first day of the 73rd annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships in third place in Division II, and 14th overall with a first-round score of 315.

Assumption College leads the Division II field with a 312. Bryant is the second Division II school with a 313, and the Eagles are third with a 315.

The University of Connecticut leads the field with a 300. The tournament is the oldest and largest in the Country. It features teams from NCAA Division I, II, and III. Forty-two teams are in the field, and 211 golfers teed off in this morning's first round.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Jim Livingstone, who fired a four-over par 76, on the 6,600-yard Port Captains/Port course. Livingstone carded a 41 on the front nine, and tied for the best score on the back with a 35. He enters the final day of the tournament tied for 23rd overall.

Junior Jamie Blake finished second on the team with a five-over par 77, shooting a blistering one-over par 37 on the front nine, and a 40 on the back, finishing the first day of the tournament tied for 35th.

Senior Calum Malcolm finished third on the team shooting a 79 (40-39) to finish tied for 70th overall with a plus-seven. Freshman Ryan Philip recorded an 83 (43-40), and sophomore Lee Wanklyn had an 85 (43-42) for the Eagles.

The Eagles are tied for fourth among other schools from the State of Connecticut, trailing only UConn (300), Trinity (309), and Central Connecticut State (311). Post is tied with Fairfield and one stroke better than Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart University.

Brian Cawley of Salem State leads the tournament with a two-under par 70.

The NEIGA Championships will conclude on Tuesday morning.
