Golf Returns Home Victorious At CACC Championships

April 18, 2007

MIDDLETOWN, Del.-After securing its second Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Championship in as many years on Tuesday, the Post University men's golf team, will take part in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championship, May 7-9 at the Speidel Golf Club in Wheeling, West Virginia.

The complete field for the Northeast Regional will be announced within the coming weeks.

"We're happy to defend our title," Interim Head Coach Tommy Dorso said. "We took time to celebrate this accomplishment, and now we are gearing up to do well in the Regional and take this program to the National level."

In addition, to punching a ticket to the NCAA's, the Eagles garnered several individual accolades. Freshman Lee Wanklyn finished third overall, to be selected CACC Rookie of the Year.

Wanklyn carded a three-over par 74, on the 6,124-yard Frog Hollow Country Club course. He was the highest finishing rookie in the conference, and earned a spot on the All-CACC team. In addition, he was a two-time CACC Rookie of the Week honoree.

Joining Wanklyn on the All-CACC team, is sophomore Lloyd Notely, who finished tied for fourth with a five-over 76. It is the second All-CACC selection, for Notley in as many years, as he finished ninth at last year's CACC Championships.

Also, Dorso, who is serving as Eagle mentor, while Head Coach Pete Stevens is serving in the U.S. Army, was named the CACC Coach of the Year. "I try to do everything the same way Coach would have, so all of the accolades should go to him," Dorso stated.

Junior Calum Malcolm was third on the team with a score of 80, and was followed by sophomore Jamie Blake with an 81, and freshman Josh Ralton with an 86.

The tournament was shortened to 18 holes, because of the remnants of the nor'easter that drenched almost the entire East Coast on Sunday. On Monday, wind gusted between 40 and 50 miles and hour.

The Eagles are ranked third in the latest NCAA Northeast Regional Poll, behind number-one St. Thomas Aquinas and number-two Pace University.

Post will head to the UMass.-Lowell Invitational, April 23-24, in preparation for the Northeast Regional.
