BaseballBaseball Ties Standard For Wins In A Season, With 5-3 Win Over Chestnut Hill May 2, 2008 NORTH WALES, Pa.-Junior Johnny Figueroa (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) blasted his second homerun of the season and went 4-for-4, as the Post University baseball team tied the school's single-season win total, with a 5-3 win over Chestnut Hill College, Friday afternoon, at Hostelley Field. With the win, the Eagles improve to 22-22 overall and 13-10 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), while Chestnut Hill falls to 7-32 overall and 5-20 in the CACC. Post, has won its last seven games in a row, and 11 of its last 12 games. The Eagles tie the 2004 squad that went 22-26, and made an appearance in the CACC Championships. After Chestnut Hill put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second inning, Post took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning, as with one on and one out, Figueroa blasted a two-run shot, with senior Eric Rovinetti (Watertown, Conn./Southern Connecticut State Univ.) aboard. Chestnut Hill knotted the score in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Eagles got it back in the top of the fifth, when junior Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.) ripped a single to left, to knock in junior Donnie Dlabola (Levittown, N.Y./Nassau C.C.), who was hit by a pitch for the sixth time this season. The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, as Rovinetti had a lead-off double to center, then went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Figueroa base hit to left. Junior Joe Proscia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) ripped a double down the left field line, to plate Figueroa from second, who moved up on a passed ball. Figueroa went 4-for-4 with a homerun, a double, three runs batted in, and two runs scored in one of his finest outings of the season for the Eagles. Rovinetti had his eighth double of the season, and scored a pair of runs. Sophomore Michael Wolfe (Ringwood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) scattered three runs, two earned on six hits and one walk, en route to his sixth win of the season. Wolfe (6-3) struck out six batters in six and two-thirds innings of work. Sophomore Tim McCarthy (Waterbury, Conn./Kennedy) picked up his third save of the season tossing two and one-third innings of scoreless relief. In his last five outings, McCarthy is 3-0 with two saves. The Eagles have improved upon their win total from the previous season, in each of the two seasons under Head Coach AJ McNamara. The two teams will complete the three-game CACC series on
Sunday, May 4 at Municipal Stadium, in Waterbury, Conn., with a
pair of seven-inning games. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
Sunday is also "Senior Day," as the Eagles will honor its
graduating seniors, who will take part in Commencement ceremonies
on Saturday.
