BaseballSchoenberg Strikes Out 10, As Baseball Defeats Nyack, 2-1 April 8, 2008 NYACK, N.Y.-Junior LHP Ben Schoenberg (Sugarland, Texas/Cedar Valley C.C.) struck out 10 batters, and junior first baseman Jim Conto (W. Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity) drove in the winning run, leading the Post University baseball team to a 2-1 win over Nyack College, Tuesday evening at Nyack Stadium. With the win, the Eagles improve to 10-14 overall and even its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record at 3-3. Nyack falls to 5-14 overall and 3-5 in the CACC. Schoenberg (3-1) pitched a gem, as he gave up just one run on three hits, while recording a career-high, 10 strike outs. Schoenberg retired the last 10 batters he faced. Junior LHP Brendan Wyman (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) pitched two innings of two-hit ball, to earn his second save of the season. Nyack grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, with a solo homerun from Jon Raebig. But, Post would knot the game in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI-single from junior third baseman Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.). With one out, junior second baseman Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity) ripped his second double of the season, and then scored on the base hit from Huffine. The score remained tied until the top of the seventh inning, as Luisi singled to leadoff the inning, and went to third on a base hit from Huffine. Huffine then went to second on a wild pitch, and senior DH Eric Rovinetti (Watertown, Conn./Southern Connecticut State Univ) walked to load the bases. Conto then lofted a sacrifice-fly to score Luisi, and break the tie. Raebig went 3-for-4 with a homerun for Nyack. Derrick Gamble took the loss for the Warriors, as he was touched for two runs on seven hits and five walks in seven innings. Luisi went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored to lead the Eagles at the plate. Huffine went 2-for-5 with a run batted in, and junior right fielder Johnny Figueroa (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) went 2-for-4, recording his second multi-hit game in a row. The Eagles will return to the diamond on Thursday as they
host in-state rival the University of New Haven, at Municipal
Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
