Baseball Splits CACC Twinbill At Felician

April 24, 2008

LYNDHURST, N.J.-Junior Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.) broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth inning and scored three runs in the top of the seventh, as the Eagles defeated Felician College, 7-3, in the nightcap of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader against Felician College, Thursday afternoon at Breslin Field. Felician won the first game 8-1.

After junior Joe Proscia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning with an infield base hit, the Eagles loaded the bases in the top of the sixth, as junior Mike Moriarty (Long Beach, N.Y./Nassau C.C.) walked, then sophomore Jose Reyes (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) reached on a bunt base-hit, and junior Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity) was hit by a pitch, to bring Huffine to the plate, where he lofted a fly ball to centerfield to score Moriarty.

Then in the seventh, Proscia scored on a wild pitch, and senior Chris Ouellette (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) ripped a two-run single to left field that plated Reyes, who reached on a fielding error by the Felician second baseman, and junior Donnie Dlabola (Levittown, N.Y./Nassau C.C.) who drew a walk to start the rally.

Post scored the first run of the nightcap in the top of the first inning, as senior Eric Rovinetti's (Watertown, Conn./Southern Connecticut State Univ.) sacrifice-fly brought home Ouellette who drew a lead-off walk. The Eagles added another run in the top of the third inning, with an RBI-single up the middle from Rovinetti.

Felician scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, to take a 3-2 lead, before Proscia tied the game in the top of the fifth.

Luisi went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Ouellette went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored. Proscia went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Huffine had a double.

Junior Brendan Wyman (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) picked up his second win of the season scattering three runs on 10 hits and two walks in seven innings. Wyman (2-3) struck out three.

In the opener, a run-scoring triple by Vinnie DiBenedetti in the bottom of the fourth inning broke a 1-1 tie and put Felician (21-18, 13-7) ahead for good. The Golden Falcons then put the game out of reach with five runs in the fifth. Chris Flynn drove in two runs with a bases-loaded, two-out single, and DiBenedetti followed with another triple, plating two more runs. DiBenedetti capped the rally by scoring on a wild pitch.

Post returns to the diamond on Friday afternoon as they begin a weekend home-and-home CACC series with Bloomfield College. The Eagles and the Deacons will play a single nine-inning game on Friday at Municipal Stadium, and a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday at Bloomfield College. First pitch for Friday's game is slated for 3 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
