BaseballBaseball Pounds Out 14 Hits, In 6-1 Win Over AIC April 2, 2008 WATERBURY, Conn.-Junior second baseman Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity) led the Post University baseball team at the plate, going 4-for-4, as the Eagles pounded out 14 hits in a 6-1 win over American International, on a windy Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Luisi started offense for the Eagles (8-12), in the bottom of the first inning, with a single to right field. He then stole second, and went to third on a base hit from junior third baseman Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.). Senior DH Eric Rovinetti's ground ball out, plated Luisi, to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. AIC (4-13) got the run back in the top of the second inning, as Dillon Fontaine grounded into a fielder's choice to knock in Corey Ketterer, who had a leadoff single to right field. Post scored the go-ahead run in the top of the second, as Luisi run-scoring single plated junior first baseman Jim Conto (W. Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity), who reached on a fielding error by the third baseman. The Eagles would add two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, as Rovinetti singled, and one batter later, junior catcher Joe Proscia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) doubled to the wall in right field, to put runners on second and third for Conto. The first baseman singled to left centerfield knocked in both Rovinetti and Proscia to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead. In the fourth, Rovinetti smacked his first triple of the season, which plated Luisi, who had a lead-off single through the left side of the infield. Proscia's single would score Rovinetti and the Eagles would lead 6-1. The Eagles sent five pitchers to the hill, as planned, and at one point, retired 14-of-15 batters. Junior RHP Matt Keiser (Woodbury, Conn./Nonnewaug) started and picked up his first win of the season, giving up one run on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters. Sophomore LHP Tim McCarthy (Waterbury, Conn./Kennedy) pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit, and striking out three. Sophomore RHP Richie Pierro (Essex, Mass./Ipswich) tossed one and a third innings of perfect baseball. Sophomore RHP Michael Wolfe (Ringwood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) pitched an inning of scoreless ball, and senior RHP Curtis Anthony (Torrington, Conn./Torrington) pitched two innings of relief, with three strikeouts. Luisi went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a run batted in, and a walk, while Rovinetti went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Proscia was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a run batted in. Senior centerfielder Chris Ouellette (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) went 2-for-3. On Friday, the Eagles will travel to Philadelphia University for
the first game of a three-game CACC series with the Rams. First
pitch is slated for 3 p.m. The venue shifts to Municipal Stadium
for a pair of seven-inning games, beginning at 12 p.m.
