BaseballBaseball Blasts Albertus Magnus, 17-4, Wednesday Afternoon March 26, 2008 WATERBURY, Conn.-Junior first baseman Jim Conto (W. Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity), junior right fielder Donnie Dlabola (Levittown, N.Y./Nassau C.C.), and junior third baseman Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.) each belted homeruns, for the Post University baseball team's 17-4, win over Albertus Magnus College, Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. The Eagles pounded out 18 hits in the contest, to improve to 7-11 on the season. Albertus falls to 1-10 on the year. It was the fifth time this season, that Post has recorded 10 or more hits in a game. Post exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first inning, as senior centerfielder Chris Ouellette (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. Dlabola knocked in junior second baseman Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity) with a single to left. Conto would then get hit by a pitch, and junior catcher Mike Moriarty (Long Beach, N.Y./Nassau C.C.) grounded into a fielder's choice to load the bases, for sophomore DH Ray Skjold (Ramsey, N.J./Paramus Catholic), who ripped a bases clearing double to the wall in right centerfield. Post would add three more in the third inning to blow the game wide open. Senior left fielder Eric Rovinetti (Watertown, Conn./Southern Connecticut State University) singled and later stole both second and third, while Dlabola drew a walk, to put runners on the corners for Conto. The first baseman belted his first career homerun with a shot over the wall in left centerfield. Huffine smacked a solo shot to right field, in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Moriarty laced a run-scoring double, as the Eagles scored four times in the fourth to extend their lead to 12-0. Dlabola added a solo shot of his own, in the fifth that hugged the foul pole, in left field. The Eagles added four more runs in the sixth to take a 17-0 lead. Albertus Magnus scored three runs in the top of the seventh, to snap the Eagles 16-inning scoreless streak, off of a double to right centerfield from pinch hitter Robert Boscarino. AMC also scored a run in the eighth inning. Sophomore Michael Wolfe (Ringwood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) picked up his second win of the season, allowing just three hits and two walks in five innings of scoreless baseball. At one point, Wolfe (2-1) retired 10-of-12 batters, and finished the afternoon with three strikeouts. Six Eagles had multi-hit games, as Conto was 2-for-3 with a homerun, three runs scored and four runs batted in. Huffine was 2-for-5 with a homer, two RBI, and two runs scored, while Dlabola was 2-for-3 with the homer, two RBI and three runs scored. Rovinetti was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Ouellette was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and junior shortstop Jose Reyes (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Today's game featured a reunion of sorts, as Post Assistant Coach Ray Ricker played collegiately for Albertus Magnus. As a senior, Ricker was second on the team with a .367 batting average, and was among the NCAA Division III leaders in doubles. The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday, as they travel to
Dominican College, for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference
(CACC) game. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
