BaseballBaseball Opens CACC Slate Against Caldwell On Tuesday March 24, 2008 WATERBURY, Conn.-The Post University baseball team will open the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday, March 25 against Caldwell College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference clash at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. Post enters the game with a 5-11 overall record this season, while Caldwell comes to town with a record of 5-7 overall. The two teams split the season-series last year, with each team winning on their home field. Post won 10-5 in the last week of the season at Municipal Stadium. The Eagles are led by junior infielder Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.) who is batting .370 (20-54) with five doubles, four runs batted in and 14 runs scored. Junior first baseman Jim Conto (W. Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity) is second on the team with a .362 batting average (17-47), and had the longest hitting streak of the season for the Eagles this season, with eight games from March 2-12. Junior LHP Ben Schoenberg (Sugarland, Texas/Cedar Valley C.C.) leads the Eagle pitching staff with a 2-0 record and a 3.04 ERA. Sophomore Michael Wolfe (Ringwood, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) is 1-1 with a 4.09 ERA. Tommy Murphy is leading the Cougars at the plate this season with a .385 batting average. He has scored five runs and has driven in two runners. Gabriel Molina is second on the team with a .382 batting average and has six doubles, nine runs batted in and seven runs scored in 34 at-bats this season. Michael Hinchliffe is 1-0 with a 1.35 earned run average in 6.2 innings of work this season. He has seven strikeouts and has walked four batters. Eric Hines is 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 12.2 innings for the Cougars this season. Post is 2-2 in wood bat games this season, as the Northeast Region made the switch from aluminum bats to wood bats this season. As a team, the Eagles are batting .311 (46-148) with wood bats this season, and has scored 28 runs in the four games with wood. Freshman Garret Keenan (Massapequa, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) leads the team with a .636 (7-11) wood batting average. He has scored three runs, with a double and one run batted in. The Eagles will face Dominican College in a mid-week CACC clash
on Thursday afternoon on the road. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
The series with St. Michael's slated for Friday and Saturday has
been cancelled, and the games will not be made up. Post will close
out the week with a doubleheader on Sunday at East Stroudsburg
University.
