Baseball Begins Wood Bat Play With Loss To St. Thomas Aquinas

BOCA RATON, Fla.-The Post University baseball team, dropped an 8-2 decision to St. Thomas Aquinas, Thursday morning at Lynn University. It was the first time this season that the Eagles used wood bats, as the entire Northeast Region made the switch to wood for the 2008 campaign.

The loss drops the Eagles to 3-9 overall and 2-5 on its spring break trip to Florida.

St. Thomas Aquinas scored two runs in the top of the second inning, before the Eagles knotted the game at 2-2 with two runs in the bottom of the third. Senior left fielder Eric Rovinetti singled up the middle to plate junior Dan Luisi who drew a one-out walk.

Then junior Donnie Dlabola laced a single to right to score junior DH Corey Huffine, who reached on his second hit-by-pitch.

But STAC would score two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, and one run in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth to account for the scoring.

Junior first baseman Jim Conto extended his hitting streak to eight games, with a single in the bottom of the second inning. During that stretch, he is hitting .458 with two doubles, three runs scored and three runs batted in.

Fernando Peralta was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one run batted in for STAC, while Pat Murray was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Kevin Connors was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and one run scored.

Rovinetti was 2-for-2 with a run scored for the Eagles.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday morning at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. First pitch is slated for 10 a.m.
