Baseball Drops Florida Trip Opening Twinbill

FORT PIERCE, Fla.--The Post University baseball opened up its spring break trip to Florida, falling to Shippensburg University 18-4 and 11-10 in extra innings on Saturday afternoon at the Bob Gladwin Baseball Complex. Shippensburg improves to 7-7 on the season, while Post falls to 1-6.

In the second game, junior second baseman Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity) went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, while senior centerfielder Chris Ouellette (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a run batted in, and a stolen base for the Eagles.

Junior first baseman Jim Conto (W. Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity) was the other Eagle to have a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-3 with a double.

In the first game, Conto was 2-for-2 with a run scored and a run batted in. Freshman left fielder Rob Perry (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) collected his first collegiate hit as he went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Senior RHP Nick Mangini (Patterson, N.Y./Carmel) pitched three innings of relief between the two games. In the first game he pitched one perfect inning, with a strikeout, and in the second game, he pitched two innings giving up one run on two hits and one walk. He also had a strikeout.

The twinbill was originally slated to begin at 10 a.m., but rain, that fell in the Fort Pierce area early Saturday morning pushed the doubleheader back to 11:37 a.m.

The Eagles will continue their southern swing on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown University. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. at the Bob Gladwin Baseball Complex in Fort Pierce, Fla.
