BaseballBaseball Pounds Out 18 Hits In 11-6 Win Over Shepherd March 2, 2008 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.-Junior right fielder Donnie Dlabola (Levittown, N.Y./Nassau C.C.) went 4-for-6 with three runs batted in, and junior LHP Ben Schoenberg (Sugarland, Texas/Cedar Valley C.C.) won his first game of the season, as the Post University baseball team defeated Shepherd University 11-6, Sunday afternoon at Fairfax Field. The Eagles (1-4) started things off in the top of the third inning, as senior centerfielder Chris Ouellette (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) reached on an error by the Shepherd (2-1) shortstop. He then, swiped second base, and came around to score on a single to center by Dlobola. Shepherd tied the game in the home half of the third inning, as Drew McCormick singled, stole second, and scored on a base hit from Chris Wilkins. With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, Dlabola hit into a fielder's choice, plating junior second baseman Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity), and Ouellette, who advanced to second and came home on an error by the third baseman. Post made it 5-1 with two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Junior third baseman Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.) singled to right knocking in sophomore shortstop Jose Reyes (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt). Senior designated hitter Eric Rovinetti's (Watertown, Conn./Southern Connecticut State) RBI-single plated Ouellette. The Eagles tacked on five more runs; on six hits in the top of the eighth to take a 10-1 lead. With two outs, Luisi singled to center, and stole second base to start the rally. Reyes' singled up the middle plated Luisi, and then stole second base. Ouellette drove him home with a single to left. After a Shepherd pitching change, and a base hit by Huffine, Dlabola singled and went to second, which allowed Ouellette to come around and score. Rovinetti then laced a two-run double to left, knocking in Dlabola and Huffine. In the bottom of the eighth, the Rams clawed their way back into the game, scoring five runs on three hits, and four walks, cutting the lead to 10-6. Wilkins keyed the rally with a two-run single. Post added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning, as Reyes reached on an error scoring junior first baseman Jim Conto (W. Hempstead, N.Y./Holy Trinity), who drew a leadoff walk. Dlabola knocked in three runners, and scored a run, leading six Eagles with multi-hit games. Ouellette was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a run batted in, Huffine was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, Rovinetti was 2-for-5 with three RBI, Luisi was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, and Reyes was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Schoenberg picked up his first career victory for the Eagles, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks in seven innings. Sophomore Mike Perry (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) pitched one and two-thirds innings of relief giving up one run on three hits, and striking out three Rams. The Eagles are slated to begin the Northern part of their
schedule with a pair of mid-week games at Pace on Tuesday, March 4,
and Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday, March 5. First pitch
