Baseball Heads To Shepherd University For Weekend Series

February 27, 2008

WATERBURY, Conn.-After opening the 2008 season with a doubleheader last weekend at Chowan University, the Post University baseball team returns to action with a three-game series at Shepherd University this weekend.

The teams will play a doubleheader at Noon on Saturday and a single nine-inning game on Sunday. The games will be played at Fairfax Field on the Shepherd campus.

Post (0-2) will be looking to rebound from a doubleheader sweep by Chowan last Sunday afternoon. The Eagles dropped a 7-6 decision, in a game that went back and forth, and a 4-0 loss in the nightcap.

In the first game at the plate, the Eagles pounded out six runs on 10 hits, and were led by a pair of players making their debuts for the Eagles in fine fashion. Junior shortstop Corey Huffine (Colorado Springs, Colo./McCook C.C.) went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while junior catcher Mike Moriarty (Long Beach, N.Y./Nassau C.C.) was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.

Dating back to last year, senior left fielder Eric Rovinetti (Watertown, Conn./Southern Connecticut State) has a five-game hitting streak. Sophomore infielder Jose Reyes (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) is riding a four-game hitting streak as well.

Shepherd will take to the field for the first time this season against the Eagles, as its three-game series at West Virginia State was postponed due to weather last weekend. Shepherd is ranked seventh in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) North Atlantic Preseason Regional Poll.

Last season, the Rams were 20-23 overall and advanced to the WVIAC Tournament Championship game. The Rams were also picked to finish first in the WVIAC North Division.

The Eagles are scheduled to play at Pace University (3/4) and Southern Connecticut State University (3/5) before traveling to Florida for their annual spring break trip.
