Baseball Tabbed Seventh In CACC Preseason Coaches Poll

February 12, 2008

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-The Post University baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the 2008 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll. The poll was conducted by the Conference's 10 head coaches, and released by the Conference this afternoon.

The Eagles finished last season on a tear, winning four of the last five games of the regular season, including wins over Dominican and Wilmington in a rare split-doubleheader to end the regular season.

Last year, under first-year Head Coach AJ McNamara, the Eagles finished the season 18-20 overall and 8-8 in the CACC. Post won the final three games of the season, finishing just one game shy of earning a spot in the CACC Championships.

Caldwell was picked to finish first in the poll receiving 98 points and eight first place votes. Wilmington was picked second, with 90 points, and two first place votes. Dominican College rounded out the top three with 80 points.

Felician College was picked to finish fourth with 62 points, followed by Philadelphia University (58), Bloomfield (48), the Eagles (45), Nyack (36), USP (23), and first-year member Chestnut Hill (10).

The Eagles return 10 pitchers and 12 position players from last year's team, and will welcome the addition of eight newcomers to the lineup this season.

Junior LHP Brendan Wyman (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) returns to the hill for the Eagles this season, after earning second-team All-CACC kudos last season. He recorded a 2.98 ERA, which was second-best in the conference, and led the CACC in opposing batting average (.231). He was 6-2 and struck out a team-high 42 batters.

Junior infielder Dan Luisi (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity) finished third on the team in hitting last season with a .308 batting average. He knocked in and scored 21 runs for the Eagles last season, and recorded four stolen bases.

The CACC has instituted two changes for the 2008 season. First, the conference made the switch to wood bats for conference games. In addition, the Eagles will use wood bats in many of their games this season, as both the Northeast-10 and East Coast Conference will use wood bats this year as well. The second change for the upcoming season is the 27-game conference schedule. Each team will play conference opponents three times during the course of the season.

Post will begin the 2008 season the weekend of February 23-24 with a three-game series at Chowan College in North Carolina. The Eagles will begin the CACC portion of their schedule on March 22 with a double-header at Felician College. The home opener is slated for March 25 with a twin-bill against Caldwell College at Municipal Stadium in Waterbury, Conn.
