White Pounds Out 29 Hits, In 16-8 Win Over Green

September 26, 2007

WATERBURY, Conn.-Junior infielder Corey Huffine continued his torrid hitting pace, going 6-for-6 at the plate with three runs batted in and three runs scored, as the White Team pounded out 29 hits in a 16-8 win over the Green Team in the final game of the Post University baseball Green-White World Series, a three-game intrasquad series at Municipal Stadium.

Huffine had three hits in the second game of the series, and three in the first game, finishing the series with 12.

"We definitely got better from an offensive standpoint throughout the series," Head Coach AJ McNamara said. "Some of the returning pitchers continued to impress, but right now, we need to get better defensively. Our defense didn't really show up in Game 3, and I'm concerned about that right now. Knowing our guys though, they'll continue to work hard to improve."

Junior infielder Dan Luisi also helped the White Team's cause at the plate, batting 4-for-6 with four runs scored.

In addition, several other White Team players had multi-hit games, as junior catcher Joe Proscia went 4-for-6 while knocking in three. Junior infielder Jim Conto and junior Donnie Diabola each went 3-for-6 at the plate. Diabola crossed the plate three times, while Conto blasted a triple off the wall in left field.

"The hitters definitely showed up today," McNamara said about the hitters in Game 3. "These guys are really progressing with their swings. The coaching staff was very impressed."

The Green Team was led at the plate by senior Curtis Anthony who was 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. Junior catcher Joe Sanfillippo went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, and freshman infielder went 3-for-6 with a double.

Sophomore Richie Pierro tossed two innings for the White Team yielding just one unearned run on one hit.

The Eagles will close out the fall portion of its schedule on Sunday, Oct. 7, as it faces former members of the Post University baseball program in the 2007 Alumni Game. As of September 21, 19 former players are expected to take on the current members of the program. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
