Post University Athletics Adds Men’s and Women’s Hockey Programs

Athletic Department Now Boasts 21 Programs

WATERBURY, Conn. – Post University announced on Monday that it will add men's and women's hockey programs to its athletic department beginning with the 2015-16 academic year. The athletic department now boasts 21 varsity athletic programs and three equestrian teams.

Pete Whitney has been named the head coach of the men's team. He is currently the Associate Head Coach at The Gunnery School in Washington, Conn. and has previously served as the head coach at Central Connecticut State. Whitney is also a former regional scout for the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

"I am very excited that our Board of Trustees has approved both men's and women's hockey here at Post University.  We were very fortunate to hire Pete Whitney as the head coach for our men's hockey team, and are excited for him to start full time on April 6th.  Pete comes with great experience, and we are very fortunate to have hired someone with his knowledge, skill, and expertise.  He will begin recruiting immediately with hopes that we can put together a team for the 2015-16 season," said Post University President Dr. Don Mroz.

The men's program will look to become the seventh member of the Northeast-10 Conference. Saint Michael's, Stonehill, Saint Anselm, Assumption, Southern New Hampshire, and Franklin Pierce currently make up the conference.

The search for a women's head coach is currently underway.
