Post Golf Named GCAA Academic National Champion for Second Consecutive Year

Eagles One of Two Teams in Division II With Team GPA of 3.5 or Better

Full Release

NORMAN, Okla. – For the second-consecutive season, the Post University golf team was named the 2013 Academic National Champion by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Post becomes the first two-time champion in Division II since the GCAA started the award in 2009.

"I'm very proud of the team. It's great for the guys to see their hard work pay off," said head golf coach Steve Sokol. "They all put in a lot of effort and push each other as a team."

The Eagles along with Ohio Valley were the only teams in NCAA Division II to earn the President's Special Recognition with a team GPA of 3.5 or better. A total of 18 teams finished with a GPA over 3.0.

Ross Earnshaw (York, England) and Thomas Rees (Cardiff, Wales) were selected as Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-Academic Scholars in July. Earnshaw was also named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Spring All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.

Brown University posted the highest overall GPA for all divisions at 3.74 and took the Division I Championship. Greensboro, Embry Riddle, Scottsdale CC, and South Mountain CC won the Division III, NAIA, NJCAA DI, and NJCAA DII titles, respectively.

"What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is that they were able to win this award two years in a row while playing a very difficult schedule that involves a tremendous amount of travel," added Sokol.

Post begins its fall season at the Dowling Fall Shootout on Sept. 20 in Riverhead, N.Y.
