Post Tabs Stephen Schuler Women’s Basketball Head Coach

Schuler Makes Move To Waterbury From Albertus Magnus

WATERBURY, Conn. – Following a three-month national search, Post University director of athletics Anthony Fallacaro announced the hiring of Stephen Schuler as the first full-time head coach of the women's basketball program on Tuesday. Schuler spent the 2011-12 campaign as the head coach at Albertus Magnus College, a NCAA Division III program in New Haven.

“Stephen is an energetic and enthusiastic individual,” Fallacaro said. “He is an individual who I am confident can continue the success our women's basketball program had last season. In one season at Albertus Magnus, he was able to turn the program around, and I'm certain he'll bring quality student-athletes to Post University.”

In his only season as the head coach of the Falcons, he led the squad to a 14-12 record. The mark represented the first winning season in eight years for the program. Schuler guided the team to the best start in program history, with four wins to open the season. Additionally, a pair of players was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Third Team at the end of the season.

Prior to his stint as the head coach, he was an assistant on the Albertus Magnus staff for the final three months of the 2010-11 campaign. As a scholastic coach at the Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Schuler won 71 games in four seasons and was named the 2008 Connecticut Post Coach of the Year.

“I'm extremely excited to make the move to Post University,” Schuler said. “We have a number of great pieces already in place and I'm looking forward to improving upon what was started before I got here. I will continue to bring quality student-athletes who will succeed on the court and in the classroom to Post.”

Schuler finished his playing career at Saint Joseph's (Maine) as a two-time NAIA All-American. Following his senior season, he was named a National Catholic Basketball Tournament All-American. Schuler wrapped up his collegiate career seventh on the all-time scoring list.

He earned his bachelor's degree in marketing and management at Saint Joseph's College in Windham, Maine, in 1994.

Schuler inherited a squad that won 10 games during the 2011-12 campaign, including the final four games of the season. The Eagles' 10 wins during the season marked the most since the 2005-06 year. Additionally, Post returns rising senior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) who was a Third Team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) performer a season ago.
