Four-Game Win Streak Snapped As Women’s Basketball Falls To Southern New Hampshire, 66-57

Eagles Honor Sandy Hook Elementary School Victims By Donning Blue Socks

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's basketball team lost its first game since Nov. 21 as it dropped a non-conference matchup with Southern New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon 66-57. The loss snapped the Eagles four-game win streak as they now sit at 6-4 overall and 5-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.
 
Junior Aubrey Latham (Mystic, Conn.) scored a team-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals. Graduate student Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 13 boards. Junior Raven Wright-James (Middletown, Conn.) added 11 points and six rebounds.
 
Post struggled to find its shot early as the Eagles missed their first 11 shots of the afternoon. Southern New Hampshire capitalized by making seven of its first nine attempts to open a 14-0 lead at the 15:03 mark of the first.
 
Junior Jessica Webber (Naugatuck, Conn.) hit a jumper at 8:43 to cap off a 16-4 Eagles run and close the deficit to 18-16. Latham and senior Casey Brooks (Highland, N.Y.) each scored five points during the comeback.
 
Latham hit a jumper in the lane with 2:38 remaining in the half to give Post its first lead of the afternoon at 29-28. Brooks split a pair of free throws with 1.5 seconds left knot the game 33-33 heading into the intermission.
 
The Penmen used a 14-4 run out of the break to open up a 47-37 advantage at the 13:51 mark of the second half. Southern New Hampshire extended its lead to as many as 12 at 60-48 with 6:22 remaining in the game.
 
Post climbed back into the game late as three-pointers by Webber and Wright-James pulled the Eagles within five at 62-57 with 1:53 left. The Eagles missed two shots on their ensuing possession and were forced to foul. The Penmen knocked down two late free throws to end the comeback bid.
 
Post forced 21 turnovers on the afternoon, which led to 20 points. Southern New Hampshire dominated inside, outrebounding the Eagles 49-35 and holding a 48-24 advantage in points in the paint. Post shot a season-low 27.3 percent from behind the arc.
 
The Eagles wore blue socks to honor the victims of Friday's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn.
 
Post will hit the hardwood again on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at home against Felician. The Eagles will be looking for their tenth consecutive CACC victory. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
