#25 Post Earns First NCAA Tournament Bid In Program History; Eagles Travel To Fourth-Seeded UMass-Lowell Friday Night

INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in program history, the #25 Post University men's soccer team qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles, which are the fifth seed in the East Region, will travel to Lowell, Mass., for a match with fourth-seeded UMass-Lowell on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. Post enters the contest with an overall record of 13-3-5, while the River Hawks enter with an overall mark of 13-5-1 and 10-3 in the Northeast 10.

Post enters the tournament as the lone representative from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). After the regular season came to a close, the Eagles claimed the CACC Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards in addition to their second straight CACC Regular Season Title. Junior Joe Baccielo (Stratford, Conn.), freshman Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) claimed player and rookie of the year, respectively, while for the second straight season head coach Ted Haley was picked up coach of the year honors.

UMass-Lowell advanced to the NE-10 semifinals before it dropped a 2-0 decision to Southern New Hampshire. The squad is led by Homero Morais who has tallied 12 goals and five assists and Bruno Bonicontro has added eight goals and five helpers to the River Hawks' offense. Defensively, Chris Maierle has logged all 1,744:08 between the pipes with three clean sheets. He has allowed 29 goals in 19 contests.

The Eagles and River Hawks have met once at Cushing Field Complex, and Post earned a 3-1 victory on Oct. 21, 2009. Errol Reid (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) earned the win in goal and made seven stops. Eltany Morais (Cape Verde Islands) netted an insurance tally in the 81st minute to arrive at the final score.

The six teams that qualified for the Super Regional 1 are #2 LIU Post (No. 1 seed), #15 Sothern New Hampshire (No. 2 seed), #12 Merrimack (No. 3), UMass-Lowell (No. 4), #25 Post (No. 5) and Franklin Pierce (No. 6).
