Eagles Volleyball Sweeps Chestnut Hill, Wins Second Consecutive CACC Match

Post Has Won Four Of Its Last Five Matches

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University volleyball team won its fourth match in its last five on Saturday afternoon, defeating Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Chestnut Hill, 3-0. The scores were, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22. The Eagles now stand at 7-10 overall and 6-3 in CACC play.
 
Sophomore Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) tied her season-high with six service aces and also recorded 36 assists. Senior Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) and graduate student Kelli Reynolds (Stamford, Conn.) each added 11 kills. Graduate student Vanessa Ramos (Milford, Conn.) chipped in 15 digs.
 
Post fell behind early in the first set as Chestnut Hill jumped out to a 7-4 advantage. Slyaktina recorded a kill to cap a 4-1 Eagles run and tie the score 8-8. With the set tied 19-19 late, Post scored the final six points to win the set. Reynolds had seven kills in the first.
 
The Eagles opened up a 10-6 lead in the second stanza to force a timeout by the Griffins. Hayes had three kills and an ace to build the advantage. Junior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) aced a serve to give Post its largest lead of the set at 22-14.
 
With Chestnut Hill holding a 4-1 advantage, Slyaktina launched three consecutive service aces to tie the final set 4-4. The teams traded points, but a late 5-1 run by the Griffins put them ahead 16-12 and forced an Eagles timeout. Out of the break, Post pulled away with a 9-2 run.
 
Post recorded its second-highest attack percentage of the season at .297. The Eagles had 41 assists to the Griffins 25 on the afternoon.
 
The Eagles travel to take on Caldwell on Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Cougars are currently second in the CACC North. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
