Post University Sprint Football Announces First Five Recruits

WATERBURY, Conn (August 17, 2010) Post University Sprint Football Coach Pete Ewald is pleased to announce the first five members of the 2010 recruiting class in preparation for the Eagles inaugural season. Waterbury's Christopher Lopez, Jarrie Hathaway, and Daniel Awwad have been recruited to play along with Mendelson Armand, and Zine Massey.

“Throughout the past several months I have been in contact with many student-athletes from nearly every state in the country as word of this new program spreads,” said Ewald. “However, my core group of athletes come from the northeast and these are the players who will shape Post University's Sprint Football program and give it an identity.”

Lopez was a defensive back who played at Wilby High School and was named to the 2010 All-Naugatuck Valley League team his senior year. Lopez is known for his leadership ability on and off the field, along with being versatile enough to play at tailback, wide receiver, or defensive back.

Hathaway graduated from Kennedy High School in 2009 after serving as the team's quarterback. He spent last year attending Naugatuck Valley Community College and is expected to assume a leadership role on the Eagles offense scheme.

Awwad will come into the program as a sophomore bringing college football experience to Post University after being recruited to play at Southern Connecticut State. Awwad was a graduate of Holy Cross High School in Waterbury and was previously coached by Eagles assistant Mike Mannetti.

In high school, the highlight of Awwad's career was when he competed in the 2007 Governor's Cup game scoring two touchdowns. He was also named MVP of the New Haven All Star game that same season.

Mendelson Armand will demand a presence on the field standing 6'2” in the 172 lb Collegiate Sprint Football League. Armand is from Brockton, MA and played for Southeastern Regional High School as a wide receiver. Armand is best known for his easy going personality off the field, but on the field has a great disposition for playing football.

Rounding out the first recruiting class is Zine Massey from Albany, NY. Massey also brings versatility to the lineup and can fit into the role of either a cover corner or a wide receiver. Last season he scored two touchdowns and averaged 17 yards per game.

Post University's Sprint Football program will play its inaugural game on September 24th at the University of Pennsylvania. Student-athletes begin arriving for training camp on August 26th.
