Women's Soccer Ranked 9th in CACC Preseason Coaches Poll
NEW HAVEN, Conn (August 16, 2010) Post University's women's soccer team has been selected ninth of 13 teams competing in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference as voted by league coaches. Philadelphia University topped this year's poll.
The Eagles return their three top scorers including seniors Susan Curran and Rachel Shivers along with sophomore Sabrina Sinopoli. The trio accounted for 42 points last season.
Stephanie Marran of Medford, NY highlights Post University's 2010 recruiting class. At the club level, Marran scored 13 goals with five assists. The Eagles will look for her to team up with Sinopoli and spark the Eagle offense.
Other newcomers to the team include a wide range of talent from the Waterbury area. Among them are
Samantha Prescott who earned MVP honors at Meriden's Platt High School her senior year with five goals as a midfielder. Prescott will add speed to the Eagles club, but is also a strong one v. one defender.
Three recruits come from Naugatuck High School including Danielle Charette who will assume the role of midfielder. According to Head Coach John Benitez, he plans on positioning Charette to jumpstart the offense with assists feeding Sinopoli and Marran.
Kelly and Andrea Markure also played at Naugatuck High School and will be placed into defensive roles this season. In 2009, the duo allowed only four goals while both were on the field which included league play and two state championship tournament contests.
Post University will play its first game of the 2010 season September 2nd at Pace University.
