Post University Golf Places 2nd at Yellow Jacket Invitational

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (April 20, 2010) Post University's golf team placed second at the Yellow Jacket Invite hosted by tournament winner American International College. The Eagles improved two positions after the first round, but could not overcome the Yellow Jackets who shot 295 as a team on the final day at the 6,531 yard, par 72 Springfield Country Club Course.
“I am proud of the way the team played in this tournament considering how challenging the last two months have been,” said Pete Stevens, Eagles Head Coach. “We have been competing at such a high level since the middle of February and with the team coming off an emotional win against Wilmington for the CACC Championship, we were emotionally drained.”
Post University's Thomas Rees (79-76—155) and Marchant de Villier (78-77—155) led the Eagles after tying for seventh place. Lee Wanklyn (78-78—156) placed eleventh, David McGregor* (82-77—159) was eighteenth, and Andrew Harris (100-91—191) was fiftieth.
“We played well considering we did not have a practice round on the course,” added Stevens. “We are going to take the rest of the week off, recharge, and continue our training routine next week in preparation for the NCAA Regional.”
Overall American International (608) won the tournament by 17 strokes over Post University (625). Adelphi (631) was third, Bentley (635) fourth, and Franklin Pierce (639) rounded out the top five.
The NCAA Regional Tournament will be held in Daniels, West Virginia at the Resort in Glade Springs with three rounds of competition on May 3-5.
