Post University Intercollegiate Equestrians Finish Season

WATERBURY, Conn. (March 22, 2010) –In IHSA Equestrian Team competition, Post University has had four outings in the month of March.  On March 6, Junior Ashley Barrett of Ansonia, CT won her Open Flat class and Sophomore Meaghan Hennessy of Roslindale, MA (her first time back coming off an injury) and Freshman Kelsey Stinneford of Wayne, ME both placed 2nd in Intermediate Flat.  Third place ribbons were earned by Junior Dominique Cogliano of Stamford, CT in Novice Flat and Freshman Amanda Nygren in Advanced Walk Trot Canter.  Barrett placed 4th in Open Fences, as did Stinneford in Intermediate Fences.  Freshman Lauren Donohue of Sterling, MA placed 6th Novice Fences.  Pamela Lyon of Plymouth, CT competed for Post University in Novice Flat and Fences.

The Equestrian Team competed again at Johnson & Wales on March 13, with Donohue placing 1st in Novice Fences and 2nd in Novice Flat.  She also competed in the ride-off and finished Reserve High Point Rider for the day. This is a really good result and the team was very excited for Lauren! Cogliano finished 2nd in Novice Fences and 6th in Novice Flat.  Nygren placed 2nd in Advanced Walk Trot Canter, and in Open Flat 3rd place ribbons were earned by Barrett and Megan Dolinskas of Cazenovia, NY, who also placed 5th in Open Fences.  Hennessy placed 5th in Intermediate Flat, with Stinneford 6th in both Intermediate Flat and Fences.

On the very wet and windy day of March 14, Post University's IHSA team competed at Trinity College.  Dolinskas earned her first blue ribbon of the season in Open Flat, which pleased the team immensely.  "Megan is such a wonderful person, and such a nice rider, it's great to see her recognized," said Coach Heather Johnson, "especially now in her Senior year.  We are all so happy for her."  Stinneford was 2nd in Intermediate Fences, and Nygren 3rd in Advanced Walk Trot Canter.  Donahue finished 5th in Novice Fences and 6th in Novice Flat.  Barrett, Cogliano, Lyon, and Hennessy also rode for Post University on that day.

The team competed again at Brown/Roger Williams on March 20, with Hennessy taking the blue in her Novice Fences class and pointing up into Intermediate.  That win qualified her to compete at the Regional show on March 27.  Second place ribbons were earned by Barrett in Open Fences, Cogliano in Novice Flat and Fences, and Donohue in Novice Flat.  Stinneford finished third in Intermediate Fences as did Donohue in Novice Fences.  Lyon was 5th in Novice Flat, and both Hennessy and Stinneford placed 6th in Intermediate Flat.  Dolinskas and Nygren also competed for Post University at Brown/Roger Williams.  The Post University Equestrian Team will compete next in the Regional Championships at Mystic Valley Hunt Club on March 27.

At Regionals held last Saturday, March 27, Ashley Barrett had two good rounds to place 5th in the Intermediate Over Fences – this continues her good showing at Regionals – she reached the National Finals last year.  Meaghan Hennessy and Pam Lyon also made it to Regionals but did not earn ribbons this time.
