McGregor Named CACC Player of the Week; Rees, Wells Garner Rookie Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn (March 30, 2010) Post University golfers David McGregor* and Thomas Rees swept weekly honors in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference this week earning Player and Rookie of the Week honors respectively. Baseball's Doug Wells also took home rookie honors.
McGregor (74-78-72—224) placed third at the 60th Annual Southern California Division II Tournament last week. After the first two rounds of competition, McGregor was in 5th place, eight strokes out of the lead. In the final round of play, McGregor improved two positions to a third place finish by shooting one over par and helping the Eagles move up to 7th place. McGregor gained four strokes in the last round and was one of only five players to shoot 72 or better. Only three players were able to shoot par for the course including tournament champion Colin Mayer.
Rees (81-81-79—241) had a strong effort as well in Southern California as he tied for 24th place.
In baseball, Doug Wells hit .333 last week with four RBIs, two runs scored and one double. Went 3-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in a 13-7 win over Bloomfield. Also drove in two runs with a double in a 6-5 win over Mercy.
Pitcher Dan Steers was also recognized as an honorable mention for pitcher of the week after throwing a complete game against Bloomfield with only one earned run and eight strikeouts.
In softball, shortstop Samantha Canning earned an honorable mention after she hit .438 with 10 RBIs, scored nine runs, and blasted two homers last week.
