2010 Post University Softball Season Preview

WATERBURY, Conn (February 8, 2010) Post University’s softball team enters its third season under the direction of head coach Tracey Garofalo coming off a 25-20 season. The Eagles return every starter from last year’s team including 2009 2nd All-CACC team selection, sophomore Amy Mantha.

Mantha had a .302 batting average in 44 starts during her freshman campaign, along with 39 hits, 3 homeruns, and 23 RBIs. As the Eagles catcher, Mantha kept a .990 fielding percentage.

“Last season was one of our better years in the recent past,” said Tracey Garofalo, Eagles Head Coach. “This season we have recruited talented student-athletes that will build upon that success because the newcomers blend well with our experienced players. This team has a work ethic that is second to none and they know how to win.”

Also returning to the program is senior Samantha Canning, who will play at shortstop and second after maintaining a .373 batting average in 2009, which was strong enough for 10th among athletes in the CACC.

Senior pitcher Stephanie Carrillo earned 17 wins last season with a 3.43 era. Rounding out the pitching for the Eagles this season will be senior Lindsey Heiser, sophomore Cassidie Ern, as well as freshmen Ashley Cummings and Johanna Rice.

Sophomore Tierney Marceau is a new addition to Post University’s roster playing catcher and first base. Marceau brings an extensive knowledge of the game to the Eagles and as a catcher has a sixth sense for pitch selection. In addition to her ability behind the plate, Marceau brings a powerful swing adding power to the Post University lineup.

Cummings and Rice top the list of newcomers to the program for the 2010 season. Cummings main role will be in adding depth to the Eagle’s pitchers, while Rice will take up a starting role in the outfield.

Another new face, Christina Marino will fight for playing time right away at first and third. Two-sport athlete Lianna May will be one of the Eagles dependable outfielders in 2010.

Post University plays its first game on March 16th against Southern Connecticut State University.
