Volleyball Signs Kelly Hayes for 2009

WATERBURY, CT – Post University Volleyball Head Coach Mike Brienza has announced a new recruit for the 2009 season, Kelly Hayes. Hayes will step into the role of an outside hitter for the Post Eagles.

“Kelly is going to have an impact for us both offensively and defensively as a freshman,” said Brienza. “We are excited about her athleticism and look forward to great contributions from her.”

Hayes comes Post University having a wealth of athletic as well as academic success. For the past 3 years, Hayes has been a starter on her Volleyball team at Roselle Catholic High School in South Orange, NJ.

In both her junior and senior years, she was named to the 3rd All-Union County Volleyball Team.
 
Academically she is a 4 time recipient of the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence by maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher throughout High School. Hayes was also the vice president of the national honor society and the Spanish honor society. 

During high school, Hayes was also a member of the varsity basketball team where she was named to the 2008-2009 Union County All-Defense Team. She was a senior co-captain of the team and her leadership skills will be iatrical to Post’s Volleyball program.

Athletes of the Week
Spencer Smith*
Men's Basketball
Spencer Smith guided the Eagles to a play-off berth following a 3-0 week in must win games. Smith scored 24 points per game last week, including a 27 point effort against Caldwell and 28 points against USP. In addition, he also came up with 12 steals.


 
Monique Chance
Women's Basketball
Monique Chance had another productive week for the Women’s Basketball team averaging 14.3 points per game and 6.7 rebounds. Chance shot 80% from the charity stripe along with 45.9% shooting from the floor.
