Post Softball Falls to Dominican in Conference Action; Bentson Hits Grand Slam

DOMINICAN, NY – The Post Eagles Softball team lost two crucial conference games Thursday on the road. Kim Bentson hit a homerun in the first game and a grand slam in the second totaling 6 RBIs on the day.

Game one was closely contested through 2.5 innings. Post trailed by 1 as Dominican scored in the bottom of the second. The number 2 team in the conference Dominican hit their stride in the third inning scoring 5 runs.

Post scored their first run in the top of the 4th. Kim Bentson hit her 3rd home room of the season. It was a solo blast making the score 6-1.

Post held Dominican scoreless in the bottom of the 4th inning. In the top of the 5th, Samantha Canning doubled to left field as the lead-off batter. Deeper into the order, Emily Archer singled to left field scoring two runs for Post.

Post would fall in the first game 11-3.

In game two, the game was tied at one heading into the bottom of the 4th. Similar to the first game, Dominican scored 6 runs on 5 hits. However, this time the Eagles struck back in the top of the 5th scoring 5 of their own and cutting the lead to only one run. Contributing to the effort was the grand slam hit by Kim Bentson  which was her second homerun of the day. 

Down by three runs, (9-6) Post scored one more in the 6th inning. Bentson singled to center field, scoring junior pitcher Stephanie Carrillo. Dominican scored two more runs in the 7th to pick up an 11-7 win.

Post will play Friday at home against Bloomfield, making up the games rained out on Tuesday.

Athletes of the Week
Dan Luisi
Baseball
Dan Luisi has been named 2009-2010 Post University Athlete of the Year at the annual athletics award banquet. As a leader on the baseball team, Luisi set a new Post University record for career hits with 181 throughout his career. Making it even more difficult for Luisi was the fact that he finished his career playing with a wood bat, while the previous record was set entirely with a metal bat. 

Luisi graduated Post University with a degree in Business Administration.
Nicole Gizzi*
Women's Volleyball

Nicole has been named 2009-2010 Post University Female Athlete of the Year at the annual athletics award banquet. As the captain on the volleyball team and a member of the Eagles softball team, Gizzi has made numerous contributions to Post University throughout her career. Gizzi has been extremely supportive of all teams that compete under the Eagles banner. 

Gizzi graduated from Post University with a degree in Biology and will continue her education in the Respiratory Therapy program at Naugatuck Valley Community College.
