Women's Tennis Blasts Past Albertus for Program's First Victory
WATERBURY, CT - With Leah McQueeny (Fr.- Bristol, CT) leading the way, the Post University women's tennis team claimed a number of firsts yesterday. McQueeny won her match at 1st singles; and the Lady Eagles won both their 1st match of the season and their 1st match in the young program's history. McQueeny defeated Amanda Maurer 6-1, 6-0 to help Post defeat Albertus Magnus 7-2 Monday afternoon at Chase Collegiate School.
Scarlet Gonzalez (Sr.- Bethel, CT), Kelsey Jacovich (So.- Wolcott, CT), Julie Hurst (Sr.- Colorado Springs, CO) and Jenna Angeloni (Sr.- Redding, CT) won their matches at #2, #3, #5 and #6 singles respectively, with Gonzalez and Hurst combining to win at second doubles as well.
Jenna Salvesen (Jr.- New Jersey) lost at #4 singles, but teamed up with Lauren Galanti (So.- Waterbury, CT) to win third doubles 8-2.
"Everyone played very well and we continue to get better every match," Post 1st year coach Ray Ricker said. "I am very happy with the win for the ladies. They have worked extremely hard so far this season. Leah McQueeney and Scarlet Gonzalez continued their fantastic play at the number 1 and 2 singles."
With the victory, Post moves to 1-2-0 (0-1-0 CACC) on the season. The Lady Eagles will try to make it two in a row in another non-conference match at St. Thomas Aquinas this Saturday, September 20 at 1:00pm.
